Essie is an American nail polish brand created in 1981 by Essie Weingarten. The obsession with nails and color arose when her mother was still a girl and took her to have her nail done as a special gift. She loved the experience but the colors annoyed little Essie. In 1981 Essie flew to Las Vegas with 12 colorful bottles and original names and then the story of the #1 nail brand in the US begins. 'The dancers loved it and the halls took over them,' reveals Essie. Top coats and foundations followed to create the perfect manicure! 1982 saw the world expansion into the European and Asian market and celebrities from all over the world wanted Essie's nail polishes, from the Queen of England to actresses and singers. In 1985, the square flask was created, an innovative format that remains until today. In 1996 the brand is awarded by Allure Magazine, InStyle Magazine and CosmoGirl. Always attentive to the needs of her fans, Essie created treatment lines for hands and feet and body lotions.
